Satsuma Real Estate donated new lighting equipment to local greenspace, Evans Playground. This donation not only supports maintenance efforts for the Uptown Softball League, but also promotes additional safety for the area and players.
The playground, which was relying on burnt out lighting to guide games played during the darker hours, had heard complaints of safety due to diminishing visibility from players in the league. This problem was immediately resolved with Satsuma’s donation for new lighting.
“Uptown Softball League at Evans Playground is more of a family than a sports league. For Satsuma to contribute to that family and ensure that we can all safely come together every week is something that I am proud of,” said William “Buddy” King, Partner and Senior Agent at Satsuma.
The contribution supports the playground’s mission to grow the city’s recreational offerings and provide communal social sporting opportunities to the Uptown community.
The lighting donation was one of many made by the members of this local brokerage over the past decade. The team at Satsuma also regularly volunteer their time to field maintenance days, spreading dirt, resetting bases, repairing or upgrading the dugouts, and building bleachers to replace the dangerous broken ones. King is joined in this venture by fellow Satsuma members Joseph Gerrity, Joshua Fogarty, and Pablo Sieres.
The Uptown Softball League, which plays on Wednesday nights, has been a popular recreational activity for the Uptown community for almost a decade and continues to grow in popularity. Evans Playground also plays host to multiple other sports, including weeknight pickup soccer and basketball games, football practices, and little league teams. In addition to being a hub for Uptown athletics, Evans Playground is frequently visited by families looking to walk their pets or use their play equipment. The new lighting equipment serves as an investment for the entire community.
“I have been playing in that league since its first season, around 11 years ago. We have clients that have played — and are still playing in the league — with us, so it was important to all of us that the league and playground continued to thrive,” added King. “This league has been the highlight of our week for years. We have made friends for life, attended marriages, met new babies, and celebrated anniversaries all because of the Uptown Softball League. Our entire team even participated in a wedding proposal during a game for two players on a rival team.”
Satsuma, Realtors is committed to supporting its local community. The brokerage plans to continue bolstering New Orleans’ public spaces, promoting local beautification efforts, and maintaining relationships with housing-oriented non-profits such as the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.
